Many people in life are good at doing easy things, accomplishing easy tasks, but what happens instead when the circumstances of life bring us to greater challenges and hardships that we are not so sure to overcome? Or what happens when we set higher goals for ourselves because of our ambition? In most of the cases, one thing will happen. We will start to doubt ourselves.
Why do we doubt ourselves?
Doubting is an instinctive action for men and it occurs because we have not enough mental capabilities to predict the future, so basically doubt is uncertainty about our future. It happens that we are not centred in ourselves right here and right now. When we doubt, we are immediately projected in our future but not even with a positive mindset on it. In fact, in the moment we doubt ourselves we are literally telling the world that we are not sure of our capabilities and the world will just reflect our attitude like a mirror. This means that friends will also start to doubt you, your family will start to doubt you and finally, you will doubt yourself even more than before. Is all that necessary? No, because by having this attitude you are just creating obstacles between yourself and your goals that would not exist otherwise.
You guys should never give up because of the doubt. You can’t stop going forward just at the beginning of your journey. Try it and let doubt be dominated by action. Then yes, you’ll have a story to tell as well.
The conclusion is that doubting is nothing that just a waste of time and mental energy. Man, really, just do what you are supposed to do and then see the results. If you have a natural inclination for doubting and you are many times prone to questioning your skills apply this little trick.
In a typical scenario the mental conversation would be something like:
“I want to be amongst the best at producing music/producing movies/football/acting/business management/marketing/finance etc. But it really a difficult thing, I mean, I am just an average guy with no experience and zero knowledge about that, how the hell can l become amongst the best? Maybe it’s better to withdraw and continue doing what I was doing before.”
Now after you (if you do) make these thoughts start again the self-talk and repeat the following sentence modifying it according to your case:
“Yes it’s true that I have no/few experience in [your field of interest] and it’s also true that it is a hard one to achieve. Anyhow I have the capabilities to act and only by acting I can actually measure my improvements and see if I can really do it. So it is pointless for me to doubt myself now. C’mon! Let’s start ACTING now and let’s forget of all doubts!.”
This is how my mental attitude was set to 6 years ago and managed to succeed many times since then in many different occasions. If you don’t do your move first you will never know if you actually could have become a star in that field and you will regret this for the rest of your life.
You cannot waste your time thinking if you can do it or not. Like says the Nike commercial “Just Do It”, and only after draw your conclusions.
Don’t doubt yourself before you really are in a situation where doubts can logically emerge. And if they will ever do, remember to repeat the sentence to yourself adapting it to your personal case. You will give this way yourself the respect that you deserve and become a better individual than you were before.
Until the next time.
